A proof of concept that shows the scarf on the shopper, not on a model

The challenge

This retailer sells the motif. A scarf is bought for its print, and online the print is only ever shown on a studio model. The question a shopper actually has, how this looks on me, how it frames my face, how it falls at the back, goes unanswered until the parcel arrives. Generic try-on tools make it worse: they return a plausible floral rather than the specific print, which is the one thing that cannot be approximated.

What we did

  • Built a web app on Cloud Run that takes a photo from the camera or the device and frames it to a fixed head and shoulders crop, so the model has enough of the face to work from and little room to invent
  • Drove three models on BytePlus ModelArk from that single service: one for the still try-on, one for a short video with the fabric moving, one for a full 360 turn
  • Sent each scarf with its own flat lay and a close-up of the weave, and named the fine background texture of that print in the prompt, so the motif comes back as itself instead of being flattened into plain colour
  • Held the face, the room and the lighting of the original photo fixed and changed only the head, neck and shoulders. No photograph of another model is ever sent as a reference, because a second face in the request tends to replace the shopper's own
  • Encoded how each scarf is meant to be worn: sitting forward on the head with both ears covered, the long point of the fold down the back, a broad panel of the print across the chest
  • Gated generation behind reCAPTCHA Enterprise, since every try-on calls a real image model

The results

  • A working proof of concept covering six scarves from the printed collection, each with its own styling rules
  • The photo, the video and the 360 view are all built from one uploaded shot, with generation times shown in the app rather than hidden
  • Photos are processed in Johor Bahru and are not stored, by us or by BytePlus. Nothing is kept once the page is closed
  • A pattern the retailer can extend to the rest of the catalogue, and one that generalises past scarves to other worn products
